About the Food Bank
The Food Bank of El Dorado County Supports over 50 local charities including food closets, soup kitchens, women’s centers, low income senior programs, maternity homes, boys & girls clubs, drug rehabilitation centers, etc. Last year warehoused and distributed over $2.5 million dollars worth of food product to the community, all on an annual budget of less than $400,000. The Food Bank is currently providing food assistance to over 10,000 individuals a month. We are able to do this work by partnering with the community. Thousands of individuals, businesses, and organizations that make up a large volunteer force that allows us to do our work on a limited budget. The Food Bank’s vision is simple: All individuals in El Dorado County who face hunger will have the opportunity to secure nutritionally adequate food at all time
The Walk for Hunger’s goal is to ensure that this collaborative network of charities is able to continue providing food assistance to El Dorado County’s most at risk children, senior citizens and families. The Walk for Hunger is inspired by the memory of an individual who has supported El Dorado County’s less fortunate for decades, Leo Albusche. Before Leo passed away he was an active board member for the Food Bank of El Dorado County and was working on a committee to plan this event.
