Food Rescue Program
The Food Bank’s Food Rescue Program is quite an interesting and efficient program.
The Food Bank of El Dorado County’s staff has teamed with local volunteers to maintain a daily Food Rescue Program. Early each morning, this team visits local grocery stores from Placerville to Folsom, and on a daily average secures 4000 pounds of donated food product consisting of items like meats, dairy, fruits, vegetables, canned foods, frozen foods, breads, pastries, and more that have only a few days of shelf life on the product code. The collected foods are then returned to the Food Bank’s Central Distribution Warehouse, and redistributed to local food response charities throughout the county, which in turn, pass it out to needy senior citizens, children and families in the local community.
