The Food Bank of El Dorado County currently administers a senior program that provides assistance to hundreds of seniors each month that are 60 years of age and over living on less than $1126.00 per month throughout El Dorado County, Senior Brown Bag, one of our most vital programs. These seniors have limited or no opportunity to change their current financial situation, are unable to work due to age, medical situation or disability. 85% of the recipients are widows and have been left in poverty. To make ends meet, the first thing these seniors will cut from their budget is food and medications. This program provides regular food assistance that gives needed nutrition and allows them a choice to keep medications they need and make it financially through the end of the month.

The Food Bank directly distributes the Senior Brown Bag Program in El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park, Georgetown, Placerville, Somerset, Pollock Pines and South Lake Tahoe. We are able to provide items such as canned fruits and vegetables, rice and pastas, canned meats and hearty soups as well as fresh produce, fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh baked breads, dairy items such as milk, eggs, cheese, yogurt and fresh juices that the seniors rely on every month.

Imagine trying to live on less than $1126.00 per month, for these seniors it is a daily struggle. In the years we have administered this program, we have learned it is not just about food assistance but also addresses something we all often take for granted, peace of mind. To these seniors, knowing the Food Bank is there for them and they will not have to go without a basic necessity, food, makes all the difference.

This specific program distributes both surplus and donated foods on a monthly basis to people 60 years of age and older who are reside in El Dorado County.

Program eligibility is based on the following criteria:

A) Must reside in El Dorado County
